history ;;
The old manor located on the outskirts of the town of Paschal was always regarded as a dark, secretive place, even when the majority of its occupants were still alive. The actual details of the incident that had occurred several years before were still unknown to them; even the servants were fairly closemouthed about it, so they began to glean their own tales and mild rumors. Some said that the manor had an unnatural darkness surrounding it at times; an obscure, unnatural mist. Some say that they saw this mist surrounding the manor on the night that the Lord and his family were all reported to have died. A similar thing had happened at least a century before, and even a time before that, though that was something that few of the current residents recalled. Logical scholars came to the conclusion that the dark mist that was occasionally seen was simply the residue from the family's study of dark magic, and the amount of spells that they used, experimenting for their own purposes. They liked to keep their experimentation to themselves; a majority of the books in the library contains the family's own secret works, records, and accomplishments. Lord Vernon (though he was mostly referred to as the eccentric old man on the hill), had always been a studious man, concerned with his work, his secrets, and most important to him, the secrets of life and death.
It was customary, of course, for the dead to be buried in coffins that had a special tube to allow in air, and a string tied around the fingers of the "corpse", in the case that a mistake was made and the person was alive, the bell on top would ring. After a while, burying the dead like this became a tradition, though not many were recovered in this manner; the dead were often well and truly dead, or at least would die before they were recovered from their graves in time. When they heard the bell ringing from Cordelia's grave, the villagers were naturally in shock. After all, she had always been sickly, and it was the old man who was trying to live forever. Or so rumors had told.
Cordelia is determined to keep her life private from outsiders, except for the few servants that still remain loyal to her. They help her remain alive; while she has become healthier, she has no sense of time and relies solely on the presence of her old nurse to bring her food and help her bathe. Her bedroom is now located in the small room next door to the library which was previously unused, though sometimes she forgets to leave the library and simply dozes off in one of the soft chairs. Without her family there to govern her, she has access to their secrets. She is very serious about her studies; learning more about her past and why things happened the way they did, reading some of her grandfather's old logs and becoming more and more horrified by the kind of man he was and the life he lead. She still writes in her journal; mostly her thoughts reflecting on what she has read, learned, and sometimes there are notes addressed to her doll, which never leaves her side.

personality ;;
Cordelia is quiet, very serious, and quite naieve, though her mindset often waivers between apathy and resignation. She is no longer the cheerful child that she was at three, and not quite the depressed girl she was at thirteen. Her emotions and emotional responses are fairly subdued. She is not sure if she's ever loved anyone in her family, and isn't sure if they ever loved her. She felt their pity, but she wasn't sure if that translated into love. She didn't hate them. Resented them at times, but it wasn't even hate she witnessed when she saw her mother and grandfather fight, because he always won in the end.
She isn't sure if she should be more afraid of being shut in than leaving doors and windows open. Those are two fears that she tends to struggle with often, so the windows and curtains are usually kept shut unless her nurse finally opens them when the air gets too stale. She doesn't argue when this occurs, though sometimes is prone to panic attacks.
Her sanity is somewhat in question since she has daily conversations with a doll when she isn't too engrossed by her reading, or blank stares at nothing in particular. Sometimes it's just a way for her to get her thoughts out into the open, other times the doll is real to her, and she talks to it as if she expects it to answer, and then of course, reacts as if she got the answer she was expecting.
She often takes things the wrong way, depending on the way something is phrased. She actually is fairly naive when it comes to the world beyond Kilia, usually doubting that the world outside the library actually exists. Because of this, she sometimes likes to create a fantasy world in her mind. Sometimes it is real, sometimes it isn't, depending on her mood.
She understands when jokes are made, though doesn't really find the humor in them. She's not one to argue a point unless something doesn't make much sense to her, and is only truly stubborn in her beliefs that the world outside will simply go away if she ignores it enough.
There are some days when she doesn't know if she's alive or dead.

appearance ;;
Cordelia has a delicate build and is quite fragile. Her hair is quite long, nearly waistlength; an almost dull shade of violet, and frames her face. She possesses a rather ghostly complexion, with deep red eyes that are somewhat striking.
